PremiAir Racing hosts students at Supercars test day
PremiAir Racing hosted 20 students from Horizons College as part of its test day at Queensland Raceway yesterday.
The students from the independent Special Assistance School based in Caboolture are studying an auto certificate course and were invited to be a part of PremiAir Racing’s first full Supercars test day since the arm of the team was established earlier this year.
As part of their experience with the team, students witness the preparations of drivers Garry Jacobson and Chris Pither and their engineers and crew as they undertook vital development work on the #76 Subway PremiAir Racing Commodore and the #22 PremiAir Coca-Cola Racing Commodore.
Subway PremiAir Racing driver, Garry Jacobson, also spoke with the students about what was unfolding and answered questions.
“We were very pleased to be able to provide a special experience for the students of Horizons College as part of our test day here at Queensland Raceway,” said Jacobson.
“Any opportunity we have to make a positive impact on the next generation and their interest in the automotive industry and motor racing is an opportunity we will always be enthusiastic to take up.
“You never know, perhaps we met some future PremiAir Racing mechanics, engineers or drivers here today.”
Horizons College students have enjoyed other learning experience with PremiAir Racing, with groups attending a number of high-profile drag racing events with the team in previous years.
Horizons College Principal, Jane Robinson, said experiences like the one offered by PremiAir Racing are very important for the school and its students.
“Horizons College of Learning and Enrichment assists young people for whom mainstream education is not meaningful. The school commenced in 2014 and now caters for students across years 7-12,” said Robinson.
“This is the sixth time that our well-deserving students have participated in an amazing experience like this with the support of the PremiAir Racing team.
“This is an opportunity that many of these students would not otherwise have had. It is a true highlight of their year; feeding their passion and inspiring them to continue to learn.
“We are very grateful to PremiAir Racing for their experiences to our students today.”
PremiAir Racing will now head to Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway for the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown, which will host the latest round of the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship and the final round of the 2022 Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship, from June 17 to 19.
