Direction Plus backs a worthy cause
4WD and heavy-duty automotive component brand, Direction Plus, has supported intellectual disability support organisation, Endeavour Foundation, via sponsorship of Jeremy Bettison and Steve Gordon in the 2021 Great Endeavour Rally.
The rally made a welcome return this year after the 2020 event was cancelled due to the pandemic. It was held from October 7 to 16 across Australia’s vast Simpson Desert.
The Great Endeavour Rally is not a race or a time trial, it is more of an adventure through outback parts of Australia, combining camaraderie with the spirit of a generous and fun-loving driving community.
Over the gruelling nine-day outback rally event, 37 teams and 120 drivers take raised more than $500,000 to provide much needed community support and opportunity.
Bettison drove with Gordon (his navigator) aboard the Direction Plus 2012 Toyota Hilux Dual Cab 3.0 Litre Diesel 4WD. When not competing in charity fund raising rallies, the vehicle is Bettison’s daily drive.
The pair’s entry enjoyed support from several fellow Bapcor automotive companies who also contributed to the cause. This included the fitment of Roadvision driving lights and taillights, supply of a Baxters LED Flasher, Opposite Lock bullbar and roof rack, Roadsafe recovery gear, JAS alternator, starter, amber light bar and electrical spares, accompanied by Burson Auto Parts supplied oils, CV shaft, wheel bearings, drive belts and universal joints.
Bettison and Gordon also visited outback schools and welcoming towns along the almost 4,000km journey, which extended from St George to Charleville in Queensland, travelling through expansive private cattle station properties.
The 2021 route also saw all entrants travel on a number of Australia’s most iconic outback roads including the Strezlecki Track, Walkers Crossing, Warburton and Birdsville Tracks along with the K1 Line.
“It is great to take part in a fun rally experience that also raises funds for a very worthy cause,” said Bettison. There are no winners, it is all about completing the rally and it was great to have so many Direction Plus and fellow Bapcor company components and consumables on our car to ensured that our Hilux didn’t miss a bit throughout the nine-day event.”
