Craig Lowndes Supercar to chase auction records

A Triple Eight Race Engineering V8 Supercar, which Craig Lowndes drove to multiple podium finishes, will go under the hammer at Lloyds Auctions this Sunday.

Lowndes debuted chassis number 888A-012A in the 2008 Adelaide Clipsal 500, finishing race one in third place. The car’s other races included the Bahrain Gulf Air Desert 400.

In 2009 Sonic Motor Racing ran James Moffat in the car in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Development Series, finishing second. A year later, Sonic ran Tim Blanchard in the development series and again finished in second place.

Ryan Simpson took over in 2013, finishing second in that year’s Khumo V8 Touring Car Series and repeating the result in 2014. In 2015 Jake Kostecki ran the car finishing ninth in the Khumo V8 Touring Car Series, and in 2017 Thomas Randle finished fifteenth in the Khumo series.

The car returned to 888 Lowndes Vodaphone livery in 2020 and has already reached a 6-figure amount in bidding with bids due to close this Sunday.

“It’s not every day you get to own a Supercar driven by one of the sports most respected and iconic names in motor racing,” said Chief Operations Officer for Lloyds Auctions, Lee Hames. “We have had enquiry from all over the country, both from Holden and Ford fans.

“We have sold many iconic race cars in recent months, we sold Walkinshaw Andretti United’s winning supercar driven by Chaz Mostert back in September, which sold for $600k under the hammer, so we won’t be surprised if Craig Lowndes’ V8 breaks the next motor racing record.”

Other race cars will also go under the hammer, such as Russel Ingall’s 2000 Castrol V8 Supercar and a 2012 Custom RM11 Formula 1000 SPEC.

“We have an incredible line up of over 500 classic cars, race cars, digicar classic NFT’s, electric cars, pinball machines and mancave collectables going under the hammer over our Grand Carmada weekend event,” said Hames.

The auctions will start at 10am Saturday 26 March and run until 7pm Sunday 27 March.
