Ford releases Ranger Wildtrak X

The first-ever Ford Ranger Wildtrak X combines premium Ranger technology, features and comfort with enhanced equipment levels to capitalise on Ranger’s versatility, rugged good looks and go-anywhere credentials.

Offered exclusively in 4×4 double-cab form, Wildtrak X builds on the high level of equipment offered in the Ranger Wildtrak, second only to the Ford Performance Ranger Raptor.

Wildtrak X boasts a smart combination of functional features that enhance Ranger’s off-road capability. Upfront, Wildtrak X leads with a black nudge bar, complete with an LED light bar for improved night-time vision, both on-road or to light up a campsite. The A-pillar-mounted snorkel allows Wildtrak X’s powertrain to breathe better on dusty roads, while reducing the risk of water entering the engine compartment when making the most of the Ranger’s best-in-class 800mm water wading capability.

New 18-inch alloy wheels with +35 offset in matte black finish and black fender flares give Wildtrak X a more aggressive stance while the grille, lower bumper area and door handles are finished in darker shades to help it stand apart as the premium Ranger model.

Inside, Wildtrak X takes advantage of the premium features as standard on Ranger, including leather-appointed seating with Wildtrak orange stitching detailing, which is also used on the steering wheel, gear-lever and handbrake boot.

SYNC 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone capability is standard. The 8.0-inch full-colour screen hosts a reversing camera and built-in voice-activated sat-nav. The sat-nav’s ‘breadcrumbs’ feature enables an off-road route to be plotted as it’s traversed by dropping digital ‘breadcrumbs’, enabling a return journey. Wildtrak X’s keyless entry system allows owners hands-free entry, enabling access to the cabin when hands are full without the need to remove the key from their pocket or baggage.

Driver Assist Technology on Ranger Wildtrak X includes Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, Hill Descent Control, Hill Launch Assist as well as an electronic rear differential lock. There’s also a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, as well as Active Park Assist – a segment first.

Active Park Assist (APA) enables semi-automatic parallel parking. Wildtrak X’s APA uses ultrasonic sensors to scan for parking spaces, and once located, calculates the required trajectory. The driver needs only to apply the throttle and brakes, as the system steers the vehicle into the parking space.

Wildtrak X will be available with the latest generation Bi-Turbo, 10-speed turbodiesel, as well as the proven 3.2L five-cylinder common rail turbodiesel and 6-speed automatic powertrain. The 10-speed transmission includes a lock-out feature to hold specific gears when towing, giving the vehicle a towing capacity of 3,500kg and a 943kg payload. The Bi-Turbo features a fuel efficiency figure of 7.4L/100km. The 3.2L, six-speed automatic version has a towing capacity of 3,500kg and a payload of 913kg. Fuel economy is 8.9L/100km.

The Ford Ranger line-up has been rated at five-stars by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
